Developing an Internet Business Strategy
Okay, so you’ve entered the exciting world of work from home opportunities, but you’ve quickly discovered that there are “gurus” all over the internet trying to teach you a ton of different systems that will help build your internet marketing empire. Before you start diving into every marketing system and waste a lot of time and money, take a step back and get a bird’s eye view of the whole equation. Here are some tips that will help you stay focused on your internet marketing journey:
1) Look for systems that require a lot of hard work to succeed.
Personally, I don’t bother anymore with systems that promise to start making you a six figure passive income in a few months. Call me close minded – I don’t care. This might cause me to miss out on a few “gems” out there, but I’ve wasted too much time and money trying to make money at these systems to be fooled again. I’ve found that the best way to make money online is the slow and steady approach. Pick strategies and tactics that you can learn and apply over time and that give you noticeable results that you can track.
2) The most enjoyable tasks on your To-Do List are not always the most important tasks.
As you first start out in the internet marketing world, you will be tempted to spend your time on learning as much as you can on the income potential of your opportunity and on reading success stories. A few of these are great as they give you some inspiration and encouragement, but don’t get bogged down in this fantasy world. At some point or another, you’re going to have to get your hands dirty and start working very hard on tasks that are often boring and repetitive. Don’t worry – these tasks are only part of the equation, but they’re essential. A few examples are article marketing, link building, and blog commenting. A golden piece of advice: outsource the tasks that you hate. Outsourcing internet-marketing tasks is not that expensive and will save you tons of hours in the long run.
3) Figure out your overall budget.
You absolutely must set a budget for your endeavor, but be realistic. You can’t be so cheap that you are depriving yourself of essential tools for your success, but at the same time you can’t be so extravagant that you are spending all of your money on outsourcing tasks that you should be accomplishing yourself. Early in my internet marketing career, I came across a great internet marketing service called The Niche Blogger. A woman named Amy Bass created this system, and it is based on all of the knowledge she acquired while blogging her way to a full time passive income online. At present, it costs about $20 per month for a subscription. The subscription price sounded like a lot of money to me at the time, but I realized that it’s essential to take some risks when starting out online and I thought this was a relatively inexpensive risk to take. I’m happy to say that it was one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I’ve used her system to create a blogging empire that is growing every day.
However, like I said, you can’t start spending like you’re the CEO of a major corporation with deep pockets or you’ll go broke. For instance, when I started out in internet marketing, I started outsourcing some of my article writing. I didn’t feel like editing all of the completed articles, but I realized that I didn’t have enough money to hire a full time student editor, so I sucked it up and did the editing myself. Was it annoying? Absolutely, but like everyone else in the world, I had budget constraints. You have to spend the time to figure out what your budget is.
